Downloading an svg file from Commons

[edit]

To download an svg file to your own computer, first make sure that you have the actual svg file open, not a png rendering (the file extension of the title must be .svg).

  • Click on the "Download" link at the left side of the menu bar near the top of the screen. This will open a dialog box. The first three rows are text which you can copy and paste for urls and attribution, but have little do do with actually downloading the file. The bottom row of the dialog box gives options for several sizes specified in pixels (px) and one option for full resolution. The pixel specified sizes will open png renderings, which is not what you want. The last link in the bottom row of the dialog box - "Full resolution" - is the one you need.
  • Click on the "Full resolution" link to open a display of the svg file in native format.
  • Right-click on the image and select "Save page as" from your browser options.
  • Follow the prompts to allocate file name and directory on your chosen drive.

Singular latin ranks should be used: Cladus, Domain, Regnum, Phylum, Divisio, Classis, Cohors, Ordo, Familia, Tribus, Genus, Sectio, Series, Species, Hybrid, Cultivar, Varietas

For intermediate ranks, use the syntax without separator like subgenus and infraordo (not "sub-genus", nor "infra ordo")
